196 Deansgate – Manchester
Value £2.6Million & program 26 weeksDeveloper Kenmore Properties acquired this Landmark, Grade 2 listed building in 2006. Sitting on Manchester City Centre’s busiest junction (Deansgate & Peter Street) a sympathetic external and internal refurbishment scheme was co-ordinated by Surveyors WHR.
Contract Services won the project with their £2.6M tender and embarked on a complicated and highly technical contract. A comprehensive upgrade of the mechanical and electrical services included a unique underfloor air conditioning system which preserved the building’s original features, and a new 12 tonne energy centre which was housed on the roof of the building - the installation procedure closed Deansgate for 10 hours over a Sunday night.
No detail was overlooked, even to the point of having 100 year old ceramic tiles reproduced for the entrance refurbishment to give the building a comprehensive but tasteful facelift.
