Contract Services is committed to encouraging and promoting our Craft and Management training programme. We’ve invited new Assistant Project Manager Liam Saunders to outline his journey so far.
“I started working at Contract Services straight out of school at the age of sixteen, beginning my career as an apprentice joiner. After a three year apprenticeship scheme, including three years studying in college, I came out of college with NVQ levels one, two and three in carpentry and joinery.”
“Not long after finishing my apprenticeship, Contract Services offered me the chance to continue at college as part of their craft apprenticeship scheme and enrolled me into a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Construction course. I passed the course in 2015 at the age of twenty-one.”
“The next two years were spent on site, gaining knowledge and experience of the different projects. The company then offered me the opportunity to complete the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) to become a future site manager.”
“Once I passed the course I gained practical experience looking after some of our projects, the role included looking after health and safety, ordering materials, dealing with subcontractors and clients. The Directors then asked me if I would like to join the Project Management team as a Project Assistant/Surveyor which I thought was a brilliant opportunity.”
“I took the opportunity and my role is now more office based, pricing projects, communicating with the clients, our Contract Managers and Site Managers, making sure our projects run smoothly and efficiently.”
“Outside of work I enjoy playing sports, mainly rugby league which I have played since I was nine years old and I also enjoy playing rugby union once the rugby league season has come to an end. I like to use my holidays for travelling to new places, seeing new things and for relaxation. I also try to use my time spare time for family and friend activities.”
“I’m looking forward to gaining more knowledge and experience over the coming months and years and hope I can develop my skills working inside our very experienced team.”
